  5. HORN OF AFRICA CONFEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS (HACTU) STRATEGIC PLAN (2022-2027)

    This is the first Strategic Plan for the Horn of Africa Confederation of Trade Unions (HACTU). The inaugural strategic plan presents a diagnostic analysis of HACTU’s internal and external environment. It identifies key change-oriented results that HACTU wishes to achieve for the period 2022-2027 and sets out the strategies to be executed to achieve the desired results. These have been used to inform the development of the 2023 – 2027 Strategic Plan to guide the Confederation over the next five years.

  6. Inclusion of persons with disabilities in workplace policies and programmes on violence and harassment, including SGBV: Action Plan

    The ILO commissioned a study to assess the prevalence and impact of Sexual Harassment, Gender-based Violence, and other forms of Violence and Harassment in the workplace targeted at, or experienced by Persons with Disabilities in Zimbabwe. The Study was informed by organisations of persons with disabilities, tripartite constituents, and other national world of work stakeholders. Following the validation of the findings report, an Action Plan was developed to address the gaps and challenges. It is linked to the national Strategy for the Elimination of Sexual Harassment and Gender Based Violence in the Workplace in line with ILO Convention 190 and Recommendation 206. The Strategy seeks to protect workers in the world of work and provides a guiding framework for the development of policies on sexual harassment.

  3. Accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in supply chains in Africa (ACCEL AFRICA) - 2nd phase in brief

    The ACCEL Africa Project is entering its second phase with a strong commitment to eradicating child labour in supply chains across Africa. It is continuing to target the root causes of child labour in specific countries and supply chains, particularly in agriculture, mining, and the rural economy.

    The focus countries for intervention are Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda, working in the cocoa, coffee, cotton, gold, and tea supply chains.

  4. ONE ILO ETHIOPIA - RESULTS FROM WORKER PHONE SURVEYS IN FOREIGN AND ETHIOPIAN APPAREL FIRMS

    This brief presents the results from eight rounds of a high-frequency phone survey undertaken with Ethiopian apparel workers between 2020 and 2022. The survey covers a period of intense turmoil for both the Ethiopian apparel sector and the country as a whole. The main focus is on socio-economic situation facing apparel workers, in particular with regard to employment, wages, the ability to meet expenses and food needs, working hours, unionisation, and health provision. Due to the stark differeences between foreign and Ethiopia firms with regard to firm-level capabilities and access to international markets, much of the analysis contrasts the experiences of Ethiopian workers in foreign and Ethiopian companies.

  1. A Call for Proposal: The Youth-to-Youth Fund (Y2YF) for the PROSPECTS Opportunity Fund

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with Edukans Foundation, is implementing the Youth-to-Youth Fund (Y2Yf) in Ethiopia as part of the area of work on Advancing Young People’s Engagement and Meaningful Participation under the PROSPECTS Partnership Programme. The PROSPECTS Partnership Programme is funded by the Government of the Netherlands and builds on the combined strengths, experience, and values of the IFC, the ILO, the UNHCR, UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Dutch Government to develop a new paradigm in responding to forced displacement crises. The PROSPECTS new area of work entitled “Advancing Young People’s Engagement and Meaningful Participation in the PROSPECTS Partnership” is being implemented by the ILO, UNICEF and UNHCR. The objective is to empower and meaningfully engage young people in forced displacement contexts so that they develop their skills and confidence to lead socio-economic and cultural activities, start an enterprise, address protection concerns, volunteer in their communities, advocate on issues that are important to them, and provide input to programming, including PROSPECTS.     The Training Manual for workplace policy development and programme implementation on gender-based violence (GBV) & sexual harassment was developed to provide guidance to the world of work for standardized education and awareness training to eliminate violence and harassment in Zimbabwe’s workplaces. The manual is aligned to ILO Convention 190 and Recommendation 206. It is linked to the national Strategy for the Elimination of Sexual Harassment and Gender Based Violence in the Workplace in line with ILO Convention 190 and Recommendation 206. The Strategy seeks to protect workers in the world of work and provides a guiding framework for the development of workplace policies on sexual harassment.
